We're Still Here was commissioned for The Guys
a play honoring the firefighters of 9/11.

It's September 11, 2011 and a man climbs a ladder to touch up
the faded American flag on the side of his dilapidated barn.  In the
days, weeks, months and years following 9/11, our flag appeared
all across the country--

Artist Bio

WILLIAM R.  KELLEY  was born in Mason City, Iowa (the River City of “The Music Man,” and the town where Buddy Holly, Richie
Valens, and the Big Bopper crashed and died.)  He grew up in Ogden, Iowa, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in July, 1957.
Following boot camp he was selected for flight school and received his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1959.  During his 18 years as
a Marine pilot he flew 13 different aircraft models amassing over 5500 mostly accident-free hours.  During the Vietnam conflict he
had three in-country tours flying observation aircraft (“birddogs”) and attack helicopters (“Hueys”) with Marine Observation
Squadrons 2 and 3.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1977, he earned a degree in Art from San Diego State University, taught computer
programming at Coleman College, worked in a bronze foundry, and was MIS director at Prescott College.  While working at
Thumb Butte Bronze in Prescott he was heavily involved in the production of Neil Logan’s sculpture of two marines which stands
in the Prescott town square facing Whiskey Row.

Retired once again, he lives with his wife, the former Patricia Feulner, and their two cats in Prescott, Arizona.
